Nearly ten years ago, we bought a little red cottage in South West Finland - one of those small red wooden houses that seem to belong more to memory than to the present. The sort of place that appears in a postcard or a 1960s home magazine, usually with a woodpile outside, floral curtains inside, and a grandfather eating herring in the kitchen corner.
